FAQ

Why do so few independent films ever get distributed?

Indie filmmakers tend to assume that distributors will buy their films.

They believe distributors will pick up their films because they know the public will love their work.

But this is rare. Distributors often take advantage of independent filmmakers.

They use tactics such as delaying a film's release date until after awards season has ended.

They may delay the release of a low budget film until after summer blockbuster season begins.

Distributors are also trying to keep films off the streets until audiences have already spent hundreds upon thousands of dollars on tickets or popcorn.

They don't wish to lose those profits.

What happens if my film fails to perform at the box offices?

There are many possible outcomes if your film fails to perform at the box offices.

You might want to change the marketing of your film.

Second, you may decide to rewrite the script.

You might also consider adding new characters.

Fourth, you may decide to remove certain characters.

Fifth, you might want to make some cuts.

Sixth, you might decide that the film wasn't worth making.

What is the difference between an Indie Film and a Foreign Language Film?

Independent films are usually made by one filmmaker who makes all of the decisions.

On the other side, a foreign-language film is normally produced by an even larger production team.

They often hire actors, writers, and directors from other countries.

They also hire professional translators so that the dialogue sounds natural.

Hollywood's fame?

The answer was straightforward. Because they were willing take risks and do something completely different, it became famous. They were able to make films that would be remembered for many years.

They were also willing to try out new ideas.

How many movies does Hollywood make a year?

Hollywood studios produce about 3,000 films each year. That's right, 3000!

These films are marketed by Hollywood, which spends billions of dollars. They spend millions producing them. They also spend millions marketing them. However, how many actually make it to the theaters?

Most likely, the answer is around 200-300. So what happens to all those other 2,700+ films? Many of the films are either directly-to-video released or left to collect dust in storage vaults.

They are not all destined to be overlooked. Some of them are available for distribution via Netflix and Amazon Prime, Hulu Plus or iTunes, Google Play, and others.

So why don't we see more of them? Why are they not released in theaters? They're too expensive.

They could also be made cheaper and put into theaters.

This is where I come in. I'll help you find the best way for your film to be released in theaters.

I'll show how to maximize your return-on-investment (ROI) as well as increase your chances for seeing your movie in theatres.

Let's face the facts...

It can be difficult to get your movie into theaters. This process can be complicated, lengthy, and filled with legalities.

It might also cost you a lot before you start.

To make matters worse, the window of time during which you can distribute your film is extremely limited.

There is simply not enough time between the end of a film and when it goes on its theatrical run.

How To

How to get your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

In 1960, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce created the Hollywood Walk of Fame (HWOF). The HWOF is located in Los Angeles at 6233 Hollywood Boulevard. It is composed of 2,711 stars embedded into sidewalks along Hollywood Boulevard. Each star represents someone who contributed to motion pictures, television, radio, theater, music, or some aspect of popular culture. There are currently 1,922 living persons listed on the HWOF.

You will need to submit your application to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be considered for membership to the HWOF. Once submitted, your name will be sent to the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs. Once you are approved, you will receive a certificate of eligibility that includes your name, date, residence, occupation, category, and other information. You also receive a bronze plaque with your name engraved on it. This plaque is attached directly to the concrete base, in front of designated stars.

If a member of the HWOF has nominated you, or if your contributions are significant to films, television, radio or theatre, or any other part of popular culture, you can apply for a Star. A committee evaluates all nominations and then decides whether to approve them. If they do so, they send a message to the applicant's address explaining their decision. If the person accepts, they will be sent a second letter to confirm their acceptance. The Hollywood Chamber of commerce will then pay $25. This money is forwarded to the Department of Cultural Affairs of Los Angeles.

The department issues a cheque payable to the Hollywood Chamber of commerce. It then sends the check the Hollywood Walk of Fame Foundation. The foundation pays the application submitted by the artist or organization. The artist or organization then pays the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce half the fee ($12.50). The City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs gets the rest.

After an artist has received his/her Star, he/she can be eligible for the HWOF. To be eligible for the HWOF, the artist must pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce any balance. The amount due depends upon how many years ago your first nomination was. You would owe $15,000. If you were first Nominated in 1990, for example. If you were nominated for the first time in 1990, you would owe $15,000.

You will need to contact Hollywood Chamber of Commerce in order to be removed from the HWOF. They will remove your name permanently from the HWOF list.

How old does one have to get a star on the HWOF?

To be nominated, one must be at least 18 years. To receive a Star, one must still be living at the time. After receiving a stars, one could still be nominated after ten more years.

What happens if I die before my star gets put up?

You can be nominated by your family members to receive a star. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce can place a memorial marker next to the star, if there aren't any living relatives.

Why not use a new street, instead of staring at everyone?

The HWOF doesn't intend to be historical monument. It is intended to honor all those who have made film history possible.

What happened to all the stars stolen? The thieves stole around 1,200 stars. Each star weighs between 250-300 lbs, so if you add up all the weight, that comes out to about 4 tons worth of stars!
